Man Found Guilty Of Murdering Father In Arlington Heights Home

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (STMW)-- An Arlington Heights man was found guilty Wednesday of beating and stabbing his father to death at their northwest suburban home in 2011.

Jurors deliberated about 3 1/2 hours before finding 22-year-old Matthew Nellessen guilty of one count of first-degree murder, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.

Prosecutors claimed Nellessen taped his father George Nellessen to a chair at their home in the 1000 block of North Wilshire Lane on Apr. 12, 2011, and forced the 55-year-old to sign over a $100,000 check from his retirement fund, the Sun-Times reported previously.

When the father threatened to call police, Matthew Nellessen "swung the bat full force at his father's head five times" and stabbed him in the neck with a steak knife, prosecutors claimed.

The father's body was found two days later, after a concerned co-worker went to check on him, authorities said.

Three alleged accomplices -- Marlon Green, 20; Armon Braden, 20; and his younger brother, Azari Braden, 19 -- also face murder and armed robbery charges in the killing.

All three have pleaded not guilty and their cases are still pending, court records show.

Nellessen will next appear in court April 16 at the Rolling Meadows courthouse for post-trial motions, Simonton said.
