Man Found Dead In Aurora Pond

AURORA (CBS) -- A man's body was found in a retention pond in west suburban Aurora Tuesday evening.

About 4:35 p.m., Aurora police received a 911 call for a car that went into a large retention pond at Tara Belle Parkway and Normantown Road between Aurora and Naperville, according to a statement from Aurora police.

Two hours later, the police and fire departments found a 59-year-old Aurora man's body in the pond about 35 yards offshore, police said.

Authorities also recovered the vehicle they believe the man was driving. Police think the driver was involved in a hit-and-run crash at 4:17 p.m. on Montgomery Road near Tara Belle Parkway.

The offending vehicle was traveling westbound on Montgomery when it collided with the other cars, police said. It was last seen traveling southbound on Normantown Road.

One person in that crash had been treated separately for minor injuries. No other victims were found in the pond, police said.

Naperville Fire Department assisted in the recovery.
