Man Fatally Struck By Vehicles On I-55 In Bolingbrook

(STMW) -- A Burbank man died after getting out of the passenger side of a vehicle on Interstate 55 early Saturday in southwest suburban Bolingbrook.

Salvador J. Pena Jr., 22, was in a vehicle traveling north about 1 a.m. on I-55 near Schmidt Road when he got into an argument with the woman who was driving, according to Illinois State Police and the Will County coroner's office.

The driver pulled over to the shoulder, where the man got out and walked into the roadway, state police said. He was struck by multiple passing vehicles.

Pena was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

All northbound lanes from Weber Road to Illinois 53 were shut down as a result of the incident until 4:30 a.m., police said.
