Man Dies Following Shooting Near Truman College

(CBS) -- A 21-year-old man died Wednesday after being wounded in a drive-by shooting near Truman College Tuesday morning.

The Cook County medical examiner identified the victim as Leonardo Matias.

Police said someone in a black 4-door sedan heading west on the 1100 block of West Wilson Avenue opened fire around 10 a.m. - apparently aiming at another vehicle - and ended up hitting Matias on the street. Police said he was not the target.

Matias was a Stienmetz High School graduate and just started a new job two weeks ago as a fire extinguisher technician for the Martin Mack Fire and Safety Equipment Company.

A friend from church says Leonardo was a youth leader that gave so much.

"It's truly a terrible tragedy," said Darlene Reschke, a friend of the victim.

Reschke said Leonardo never missed a Sunday at church.
