Man Dies After Vehicle Hits Semi On I-94

WILMETTE, Ill. (STMW) -- A man died after the vehicle he was driving crashed in to a parked semi on Interstate 94 early Saturday in north suburban Wilmette.

About 4:50 a.m., a Freightliner semi was parked on the right shoulder of northbound I-94 lanes near Skokie Road when a black 2012 Suzuki ran off the road and hit the truck, Illinois State Police said in a statement.

The 30-year-old man driving the Suzuki, from Round Lake Beach, died after the crash, authorities said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office was not releasing the man's name Saturday morning pending notification of family.

The only passenger in the vehicle had to be extricated and was taken to a hospital, police said.

The right two lanes near the crash site were closed for six hours as police investigated. They were reopened about 11 a.m.
