Man Dies After Crashing Van Into Southwest Side Building

(STMW) -- A 63-year-old man died after he crashed a van into a building late Saturday in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The minivan was heading northbound in the 4900 block of South Cicero at 11:50 p.m. when it struck a building, police said.

The driver, a 63-year-old man, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Three women in the vehicle were taken to Stroger Hospital, where they were all treated and released, police said.

A police source said it appears the driver suffered a medical event caused the crash.

The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the fatality, but did not release any additional details early Sunday.
