Man Dies After Car Plunges Into Lake In Aurora

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man died Thursday morning, after a car plunged into a lake in a forest preserve in west suburban Aurora.

Kane County Forest Preserve spokeswoman Laurie Mentanchek said firefighters were called to Lake Patterson in the Oakhurst Forest Preserve around 8 a.m., for a call about a car in the water.

A diver went in the water around 8:15 a.m., and found a victim a few minutes later. The man was pulled out of the water, and taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where he was pronounced dead.

"There originally were two males in the car. One was able to escape before it went in the water, and he was the person who flagged down a car on 5th Avenue there to call 911," Mentanchek said.

The second man also was taken to the hospital, but his condition was not available late Thursday morning.

The vehicle has been removed from the lake.

Kane County Forest Preserve Police were investigating.
