Man Dies After Being Struck By Car Near Hoffman Estates

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (STMW) -- A man died early Monday after being struck by a car in a dark, wooded area near northwest suburban Hoffman Estates.

The 27-year-old had been walking about 5 a.m. near Golf and Rohrssen roads in unincorporated Hoffman Estates when he was hit by a westbound Nissan Versa, Cook County Sheriff's office spokesman Sophia Ansari said.

The 56-year-old driver realized he had hit something on the dark, wooded roadway, but didn't know it was a person until he pulled over to check, Ansari said. He and another driver who spotted the body called police separately.

The 27-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene about 20 minutes later, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. His name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

"The incident does not appear to be criminal in nature but remains under investigation," Ansari said.
