Man Dead, Two Women Hurt In Arlington Heights Fire

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was killed and two women were injured in an early morning fire in northwest suburban Arlington Heights.

When crews arrived at the home in the 1600 block of Waverly Court shortly before 3 a.m., they found a woman in the front yard who did not know where her husband or daughter were.

Arlington Heights Fire Chief Kenneth Koeppen said the home was fully engulfed.

"Anytime you have fires after 10, 11 o'clock at night, 2, 3 o'clock in the morning, there's always that challenge or the possibility of people being trapped inside; especially when you pull up, and there's cars in the driveway, that's never a good sign," he said.

Fire crews from neighboring departments helped search the home as Arlington Heights firefighters battled the flames. They found a man dead inside, and two women injured who made it out – a woman in her 60s, and a woman in her 30s, thought to be her daughter.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

"We'll be doing interviews and stuff with the victims," Koeppen said. "The state fire marshal, the police department, and the fire department will coordinate their investigation."

The two women were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man, believed to be in his late 60s, has not been identified.
