Man Crushed To Death By Truck In Robbins

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 62-year-old man was crushed to death by a semi cab he was working on at his south suburban home Monday evening in Robbins.

Authorities were called about 6:45 p.m. to reports of a man stuck under a truck in the 3400 block of West 136th Street, Robbins Fire Dept. Deputy Chief Donald Rush told a reporter at the scene.

"It appears that he was working on his vehicle and whatever he was using for support failed on him," Rush said.

He had been working on the brakes with one of the semi's front tires removed when the truck fell on him, Rush said.

The man, identified by the Cook County medical examiner's office as Douglas Mondane, was extricated from underneath the truck and taken to a hospital. He was pronounced dead at 7:23 p.m.
