Man Crushed By Carnival Ride Committed Suicide: Police

(STMW) -- A man found dead Thursday afternoon on the grounds of the annual Ribfest in west suburban Naperville apparently committed suicide, police said.

The man was found unresponsive about 2:48 p.m. in the carnival section of the festival, Naperville Police Sgt. Bill Davis said.

He was dead on the scene, and the DuPage County Coroner's office has been notified, Davis said.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the man jumped in front of a carnival ride, and no foul play or ride malfunctions were suspected as of Friday morning, Davis said.

The man is an adult, but his exact age was not released, authorities said.

Thursday was the first day of the annual festival, which runs through Sunday at Knoch Park near Naperville Central High School, according to the festival's website. The event features a barbecue competition, live music and a section of carnival rides.
