Man Convicted Of Beating Woman, 76, Now Charged With Her Murder

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man convicted of beating an elderly woman two years ago in the South Side Bronzeville neighborhood now faces murder charges following her death.

Hezekiah Anthony, 34, began serving an eight-year sentence earlier this year for the July, 26, 2014, attack against Dora Nix-Corbin near her home in the 500 block of East 47th Street, according to court records and Chicago Police.

Nix-Corbin was 76 when she died in hospice care May 29 this year, of complications from the head injuries she suffered in the assault, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Anthony, of the 4700 block of South Champlain, was arrested in September 2014 and later convicted of aggravated battery of a person older than 60, records show.

The downstate Pinckneyville Correctional Center inmate appeared in court Tuesday for the new first-degree murder charges and was ordered held without bond. His next court date is Nov. 23.
