Man Completes Bike Ride From California To Chicago To Raise Money For Fatherhood Charities

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago man has just arrived back in town just in time for Father's Day after a 21-day charity bike ride from California, reports WBBM's Mariam Sobh.

David Hirsch flew to Los Angeles and then on June 1 began his ride from Santa Monica, Calif. to Chicago.

"Started pedaling and here I am 21 days later," he said.

Hirsch says the ride was to honor fathers across the country and raise money for various fatherhood charities. He says he is not sure he will ever do a ride like this again because he didn't realize how ambitious it was to bike more than 100 miles a day.

"It is hard to anticipate because you can't train in the Midwest for heat and elevation," Hirsch said.

So far he says they have raised more than $100,000 for fatherhood charities.
