Man Claims To Have Bomb During Traffic Stop In Ashburn

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man made a bomb threat during a traffic stop Wednesday morning in the Ashburn neighborhood, but police determined his threat was a hoax.

Police said it started as a traffic stop in the 7700 block of South Kedzie Avenue around 9:15 a.m. The man tried to drive off, and crashed his car at a gas station.

After crashing the car, he claimed to have a bomb in his car, and warned police not to approach.

Police closed the intersection of 77th and Kedzie while the bomb unit checked the car. The bomb uit determined there was no explosive device, and the driver, a 49-year-old man, was arrested.

Charges were pending early Wednesday afternoon.
