Man Charged With Stealing Semi-Truck In Oct. 7 Hit-And-Run That Injured Bicyclist

(STMW) -- A Chicago man is accused of stealing a semi-truck that injured a bicyclist in a hit-and-run earlier this month in the South Side McKinley Park neighborhood.

Jason Popko, 31, is charged with one count each of possession of a stolen vehicle and failure to report an accident with injury, both felonies, Chicago Police said in a statement Friday.

The crash happened about 4:25 p.m. on Oct. 7, police said.

Popko was driving the stolen semi-truck in the 3600 block of South Ashland when it hit a 47-year-old man riding a bicycle, police said. He then drove off.

The cyclist was taken to a hospital, where his last known condition was critical, police said.

Popko, of the 2700 block of West Harrison, is scheduled to appear in bond court Saturday.
