Man Charged With Shooting Two People In Austin Over New Year's Weekend

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged with shooting two people over the New Year's weekend in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

Steven McKinnie, 27, was charged with felony counts of aggravated battery/discharge firearm, according to Chicago Police.

McKinnie and two men were arguing in the 500 block of South Lavergne Avenue at 4:50 a.m. on Jan. 2 when he opened fire, police said.

A 34-year-old man was shot in the back and abdomen, and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, police said. A 29-year-old man was shot four times in the torso and was taken in good condition to Stroger.

McKinnie, of the 4300 block of South Evans, was scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday.
