Man Charged With Shooting Toddler In Woodlawn

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 23-year-old man has been charged with shooting a toddler in the Woodlawn neighborhood, leaving the 3-year-old boy paralyzed.

Devon Quinn was riding in a car in the 6100 block of South Kimbark Avenue around 6:15 p.m. Sunday, when another vehicle drove up and someone inside started shooting.

Thursday afternoon, police said 23-year-old Desean Wynn was arrested Tuesday, and was identified as the shooter. Wynn has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Devon was shot in the back, and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition. Police said Thursday that he has been paralyzed.

Crisis responder Andrew Holmes said the shooting is an insult, because the child was an unintended target.

"Think before you put your hands on that weapon and discharge that weapon. That's not a career. It's not a toy. If you want to settle some differences, sit down and talk like men," he said.

Wynn was scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday, police said.
