Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Boy In Public Restroom

A 45-year-old Chicago man is being held on $500,000 bond, accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old boy in a public restroom a year ago.

The Cook County State's Attorney's office says the boy was assaulted last April, and it's taken this long for authorities to run the DNA evidence and then find 45-year-old David Vega.

Vega lives in the 2600 block of West Cermak Road, not far from the Chinese restaurant where authorities say the 8-year-old boy was eating with his family last year.

Prosecutors say Vega was in the restroom with the boy, and told him to close his eyes. Later, the boy saw Vega leave the restaurant, and told his family what had happened.

Investigators were able to trace DNA evidence to Vega, because he had a criminal conviction in California, and then they located him in Chicago and arrested him this week.

If he's convicted of predatory criminal sexual assault, he faces up to 30 years in prison.
