Man Charged With Setting Tent On Fire At Naperville Gas Station
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged with setting a tent on fire behind a gas station earlier this month in west suburban Naperville.
James Povolo, 71, of the 1300 block of Dartfourt Court in Naperville, was charged Tuesday with one felony count of arson, according to a statement from DuPage County State's Attorney's office.
About 2 p.m. July 16, Povolo allegedly set a tent – which he knew to be unoccupied – on fire behind the Mobil gas station near the intersection of Ogden and Naper Boulevard, prosecutors said. The fire destroyed the tent and everything inside of it, but no one was injured.
He turned himself in to authorities Tuesday and was released after posting $2,500 bond, prosecutors said. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 30.
"An open fire in close proximity to a gas station could have quickly turned into a very dangerous situation," State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin said in the statement.
