Man Charged With Running Down Man In Belmont-Cragin

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was ordered held on a $500,000 bond on Wednesday after being charged with intentionally striking a man with his car and gravely injuring him on Sunday night in the Northwest Side Belmont Cragin neighborhood.

Aldo Morua, 41, faces two felony counts of attempted first-degree murder, according to Chicago Police.

Morua intentionally struck a 53-year-old man and also tried to strike a 47-year-old woman with his vehicle at Diversey and Lavergne avenues about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

The man was taken in "grave" condition to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said. The woman was not hurt.

Police said victims knew the driver and the incident was domestic-related, but did not provide additional details. Police could not confirm reports that Morua was the woman's ex-boyfriend.

Morua, of the 3000 block of North Oketo, is next due in court on Mar. 3, according to police and the Cook County sheriff's office.
