Man Charged With Murder In South Side Bar Shooting

Updated 03/13/14 - 2:20 p.m.

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Bond was denied Thursday for a man charged with fatally shooting one man and wounding three others during a shooting in a South Side bar in January.

Parrish Davis, 30, faces one count of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm -- all felonies, police said. Davis was denied bond at hearing Thursday.

On Jan. 25, five people were shot about 12:55 a.m. while they were attending a party inside Rudy's Lounge in the 5100 block of South Union Avenue, police said at the time. An argument broke out between party-goers and two uninvited males, and after the males were escorted from the bar by security, shots were fired from the bar's doorway.

Davis, of the 1100 block of South Richmond Street, was later identified as one of the people escorted out of the establishment, police said.

When Davis returned to the bar, he allegedly took out a handgun and opened fire, fatally shooting a 35-year-old man in the back of the head and injuring three other people, police said.

Elsaleem Mannte'el, of the 8100 block of South Drexel Avenue, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 1:38 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Police accuse Davis of also shooting a 40-year-old man, who suffered a graze wound to the head; a 34-year-old woman, who suffered a graze wound to the neck; and a 37-year-old man, who suffered a graze wound to the arm, police said. All three survived the shooting.

Davis has not been charged with injuring a 37-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to the neck in the shooting, although it was not immediately clear why, police said.
