Man Charged With Murder For Fatal Shooting In Waukegan

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (STMW) -- A north suburban man has been charged with murder for the fatal shooting of a 53-year-old man following an argument last week in Waukegan.

Miguel Leyva, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of Adrian Villarreal, who was found unresponsive in his vehicle near Hickory and Center streets in Waukegan on March 15, according to a statement from Waukegan police.

Leyva and Villarreal knew each other and had met earlier that night, the statement said. Villarreal was shot after a dispute ensued between the two men.

The Lake County Coroner determined Villarreal died from gunshots, the statement said. During the investigation, police recovered a gun.

Leyva, of the 1700 block of Golf Road in Waukegan, was arrested Friday and is being held in the Lake County Jail on a $3 million bond, police said. He is next scheduled to appear in court April 4.
