Man Charged With Kidnapping Baby Daughter At Gunpoint

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Dolton man accused of kidnapping his 4-month-old daughter at gunpoint from the South Side Avalon Park neighborhood was ordered held without bail Tuesday.

Nathaniel Lawson, 22, was charged with one felony count each of home invasion, child abduction, aggravated unlawful restraint and robbery, according to a statement from Chicago Police. Judge Peggy Chiampas ordered Lawson held without bond Tuesday.

Lawson was involved in a fight with the child's mother about 3:30 a.m. Monday at a home in the 1100 block of East 82nd Street, and he left the scene after police were notified, according to the statement.

He later returned to the home with a handgun, kicked down a door and left the home with his 4-month-old daughter, police said.

Officers later found Lawson and the girl between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., police said. Lawson was arrested and the girl was taken for observation to Comer Children's Hospital, where she was listed in good condition.

Lawson, of the 15100 block of South Dorchester Avenue in Dolton, is next scheduled to appear in Branch 64 on May 12.
