Man Charged With Fatally Shooting His Cousin Near West Chicago

(STMW) -- A 19-year-old west suburban man fatally shot his cousin and left the body on the side of a road near West Chicago last week, according to the DuPage County sheriff's office.

James Hernandez has been charged with first-degree murder for the Nov. 20 attack, sheriff's spokeswoman Dawn Domrose announced Saturday evening.

Enrique Hernandez Jr., 27, was discovered about 11 p.m. that night at the intersection of Highlake and DuPage avenues in unincorporated West Chicago, Domrose said.

The 27-year-old West Chicago resident was taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, where he was pronounced dead. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head, according to the DuPage County coroner's office.

Detectives determined James Hernandez, his cousin, was the last person with him before he was found on the road, Domrose said.

Police said Enrique Hernandez was a documented gang member who was targeted in an isolated attack.

James Hernandez, of the 300 block of Clayton Street in West Chicago appeared in court Sunday morning, where bond was set at $2 million.
