Man Charged With Fatal Stabbing In Chicago Lawn

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Bond was set at $500,000 for a man charged in connection with a fatal stabbing Friday night in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Darius M. Smith, 23, faces one count of first-degree murder after he and 28-year-old Tony Ervin got into a fight about 10:30 p.m. at Ervin's home in the 6000 block of South Sacramento Avenue, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

During the fight, Smith pulled out a knife and stabbed Ervin in the chest, police said.

Ervin was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 11:11 p.m., the medical examiner's office said. An autopsy Saturday ruled his death a homicide.

His next court date is scheduled for Monday.
