Man Charged With Fatal Stabbing In Back Of The Yards

(STMW) -- A man was ordered held on a $1.5 million bond Monday after being charged with the fatal stabbing of his estranged wife's new boyfriend outside a Burger King in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Vicente Salgado, 39, is charged with first-degree murder, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

Salgado is accused of fatally stabbing Juan Martinez on March 7 outside a Burger King in the 2000 block of West 47th Street.

Prosecutors said Salgado had asked to meet his estranged wife at the Burger King, and her new boyfriend, Martinez, came with her but sat at a different table.
The woman told Salgado she did not want to move back in with him and left with Martinez. Salgado then attacked Martinez outside the restaurant, prosecutors said.
Martinez, 40, was stabbed multiple times about 4:10 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. Salgado's wife was not injured.

Martinez, of the 4600 block of North Central Park, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:41 p.m., authorities said.

Salgado, of the 4500 block of South Honore, was ordered held on $1.5 million by Judge Peggy Chiampas. He is scheduled to appear in court next March 27.
