$1M Bond For Man Charged With Fatal Stabbing At Hawthorne Race Course

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man charged with stabbing another man to death Wednesday evening at Hawthorne Race Course in southwest suburban Stickney has been ordered held on a $1 million bond.

Miguel Salgado, 28, was charged with first-degree murder for the stabbing death of 30-year-old Rodrigo Flores-Garcia, according to Stickney police.

Officers responded to a stabbing about 6 p.m. Wednesday at the southwest suburban race track's stable area and found Flores-Garcia with multiple stab wounds, according to Stickney police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

That area is not open to the public. According to a statement from Hawthorne, the fight was between two employees of trainers stabled on the backstretch.

Flores-Garcia was taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. He lived in the 3700 block of South Laramie in Cicero.

Salgado, who lives in the 2400 block of Roanoke Lane in Shelbyville, Indiana, has been ordered held at the Cook County Jail on a $1 million bond, according to the sheriff's office. He is due back in court Nov. 22.

Authorities initially had three people in custody for the attack, but the other two have since been released without being charged, police said.

Stickney police are investigating along with the Major Case Assistance Team. Anyone with information should call police at (708) 788-2131.
