Man Charged With Breaking Into Elgin Home, Tying Up Family

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Chicago man has been charged with tying up members of a family during a home invasion earlier this summer in northwest suburban Elgin.

Xavier Pacheco, 27, was armed with a gun when he broke into the apartment in the 1100 block of Birch Street, according to Elgin police.

The family was able to free themselves once Pacheco left with an unspecified number of other suspects, police said.

Pacheco was charged Thursday with a count of home invasion with a firearm, and he was ordered held on a $500,000 bond, police said.

Detectives are still investigating and ask anyone with information to call police at (847) 695-4195.
