Man Charged With Armed Robbery Of Delivery Driver In Evanston

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A west suburban man has been charged with robbing a food delivery driver Monday evening in Evanston.

The driver, a 54-year-old man, was delivering food from a Chicago restaurant to a home in the 1700 block of Darrow Avenue in Evanston about 6 p.m., according to a statement from Evanston police.

Deivonte D. Kelly and another male approached the driver as he was walking from the vehicle to the home, police said. The male held a knife to the driver's neck while 22-year-old Kelly took the bag of food from his hand.

Officers later stopped Kelly in the 1700 block of Lyons Street, and the driver identified him as the person who took the food, police said. Kelly, who lives in Maywood, was charged with a felony count of armed robbery.

The other suspect, described as a male with a thin build wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt, remains at large, according to police.
