Man Charged With 2012 Double Murder In Austin

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged with shooting two men dead in the West Side Austin neighborhood in June 2012.

Angelo Matthews, 26, is facing two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the double fatal shooting that happened on June 19, 2012, according to Chicago Police.

Matthews allegedly walked up to the men and shot them both in the head about 1:12 a.m. in the 1200 block of North Mason Avenue, authorities said.

They were identified as Chaves Wilson, 23, of the 1200 block of North Mason Avenue, and Roy Smith, 25, of the 5900 block of West Huron Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The two were shot at Wilson's house and were dead at the scene, according to the medical examiner's office.

Court information for Matthews, of the 5700 bock of West Chicago Avenue, was not immediately available.
