Man Charged In Landlord's Shooting Death

(CBS) – Chicago police have announced an arrest and charges in the murder of a local businessman who was shot earlier this year while collecting rent from tenants.

Chicago police say Tyneil Washington, 29, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a 66-year-old man during a March 1 armed robbery attempt.

Herbert L. Goode, was shot multiple times in the 2300 block of West 57th Street outside an industrial building he owned in West Englewood. The longtime businessman owned a River North framing shop and the rental properties.

Goode's tenants told CBS 2 he was out collecting rent there when a gunman came up to him in the middle of the street and opened fire.

Chicago police say they were assisted in Washington's apprehension by the Champaign Police Department and federal authorities. They say Washington appeared in bond court Friday; details were not available.
