Man Charged In Fatal June Shooting In Chicago Lawn

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged in connection with shooting another man to death last month in the Southwest Side Chicago Lawn neighborhood.

James Jones, 18, has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder for the shooting that killed 18-year-old Demarcus Boswell on June 19, authorities said.

Boswell was walking on the sidewalk with a group of people about 4:50 p.m. in the 2800 block of West 71st Street when Jones approached on foot and fired multiple shots, striking him in the face and torso, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Boswell, of the 3300 block of West 65th Street, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:37 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

Jones, of the 7000 block of South Artesian Avenue, was already incarcerated at the Cook County Jail for a prior incident when he was charged, according to police.
