Man Charged In Fatal Back Of The Yards Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Gage Park man has been charged in connection to a fatal shooting in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood Friday night.

Cliffon Johnson, 28 of the 5500 block of South Washtenaw, was charged with one count of first-degree murder, according to a police statement.

Charles Wright, 39, was shot in the abdomen about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 5300 block of South Hoyne, authorities said.

Wright, of the 3100 block of West 71st Street, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:35 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Johnson is scheduled to appear in bond court Monday.
