Teen Charged In December Fatal Shooting Of Parolee

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A South Side high school student was ordered held without bond Thursday after being charged with the fatal shooting of a man last month in Englewood.

Nevada Hicks, 18, faces one count of first-degree murder for the death of a 22-year-old Demarco Lyons on Dec. 8, 2013, authorities said. Judge Israel Desierto ordered Hicks, who a public defender said is a student at Dunbar High School, held without bond Thursday.

Demarco Lyons was walking on the sidewalk with another person in the 300 block of West 60th Place about 2:45 p.m. on Dec. 8 when Hicks got out of the passenger side of a car, pointed a gun at Lyons and fired multiple times before getting back into the car, according to court records.

Lyons, of the 6000 block of South Princeton Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

Lyons' companion identified Hicks as the gunman for the police in a photo lineup and a physical lineup, according to prosecutors, who also said Hicks admitted to other people that he killed Lyons.

Hicks, of the 5500 block of South Paulina Street, previously pleaded guilty in a 2011 in a juvenile battery case, according to court records.

Police said Lyons was a parolee with gang affiliations.
