Man Charged In Connection With Fatal Police-Involved Shooting

(CBS) -- A Chicago man is being charged in a police-involved shooting in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood last weekend that left one person dead.

29-year-old Rafael Cruz was shot by police who were chasing suspects early on the morning of Aug 29. Two officers on routine patrol say a vehicle pulled up to another car at 23rd and Wood Street, and someone inside started shooting.

They chased them, and the driver slammed into several parked cars at 19th and Ashland then put it into reverse and tried to hit the two officers who'd gotten out of their cruiser. They fired and Cruz was hit and killed.

The passenger, 34 year old Erik Martinez, has now been charged with Cruz's death, and for allegedly trying to kill the officers and two other people inside a car.
