Man Charged In Bensenville Shooting That Left Clerk Dead

BENSENVILLE, Ill. (STMW) -- A man has been charged with murder in connection with an armed robbery that turned fatal in northwest suburban Bensenville last month.

Kenneth Bardlett, 20, of Bellwood, was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempted armed robbery, according to a release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's office.

The charges stem from the Jan. 19 robbery and shooting death of Hussein Saghir, a clerk at Sam's Tobacco and Food Mart in Bensenville, authorities said.

Bardlett is scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday in Wheaton.

Saghir, 36, was working at Sam's Tobacco and Food Mart at 235 W. Irving Park Rd. when he was shot at about 6 p.m., according to a release from Bensenville police.

Authorities said Saghir, of Chicago, was lying on the ground in front of the business when first responders arrived.

He was taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the release said.
