Man Charged After Crystal Lake Police-Involved Shooting

(STMW) -- A man who was shot by Crystal Lake police after charging at an officer with a knife early Monday was ordered held on a $300,000 bond Wednesday.

Joseph Laudicina, 29, whose last known address was in the 1100 block of North Fischer Drive in Addison, was charged with home invasion, vehicular invasion and two counts of aggravated domestic battery, all felonies, according to Crystal Lake police.

Officers initially responded to a domestic battery at a home in the 300 block of West Terra Cotta Avenue (Route 176) about 11:10 p.m. Sunday, according to a statement from the Crystal Lake police department.

Laudicina had struck a female family member several times in the face, strangled her and threatened to kill her while armed with a knife, police said. He fled the scene before officers arrived. The woman was treated at the scene for her injuries.

A few hours later, officers responded to another home in the 800 block of Boxwood Drive about 1:35 a.m., police said. Laudicina had entered the home on Boxwood Drive against the wishes of the residents, including the woman hurt in the earlier incident.

The officers entered the home and one officer was confronted by Laudicina, who was armed with a knife and charged at the officer, according to the statement. The officer fired his weapon, striking him at least one time.

Laudicina was taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock, where he remains hospitalized Wednesday afternoon, police said. Bond was set at $300,000.

The officer was taken as a precaution to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he was treated and released.

According to the statement, the officer has been placed on administrative leave, "which is standard practice in this type of incident."

Illinois State Police are still investigating and additional charges may be filed.
