Man Charged After Cops Shoot 2 Dogs, Seize Pills And Guns

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A South Side man has been charged with a litany of felonies after a search of his Calumet Heights neighborhood home Monday night yielded illegal firearms, pills, and cash.

Gresham District officers were executing a search warrant at a home in the 9200 block of South Merrill Avenue about 10:30 p.m. when two pit bulls charged them as they entered the basement, police said.

The officers fired their weapons and shot both dogs, one of which died, while the other was injured, police said. The officers were not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

Two guns, illegal pills and an undisclosed amount of cash were seized during the search, police said.

The target of the warrant, 41-year-old Byron White, was charged with three counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm with defaced serial number, and manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, police said.
