Man, Boy Bitten By Pit Bull In Chatham

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 48-year-old man and an 8-year-old boy were injured Saturday afternoon, when a pit bull got loose in the Chatham neighborhood, and attacked the boy, and the man tried to intervene.

Police said the dog got loose from a home in the 100 block of East 90th Street around 2 p.m., and ran outside.

The dog bit an 8-year-old boy on the leg, and a 48-year-old man who lives on the block intervened. The dog then bit the man on the face and body.

The boy and the man were taken to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island to be treated for their injuries, but their conditions were not immediately available.

The man's wife said her husband was in the emergency room, but it was not immediately clear if he would need surgery. She said the child lives in the neighborhood, but did not live in the house where the dog lives.

The dog's owner was cited for failure to restrain the dog, and for not having a dog license. Police did not have any information about whether the dog was seized by Animal Care & Control.
