Man Bites Paramedic Downtown

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man bit a paramedic and injured a firefighter when he struggled with rescue crews early Thursday in the Loop.

Paramedics and Chicago Fire Department personnel responded to a call of a person down about 1:25 a.m. in the 200 block of West Jackson, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

When they attempted to put the man onto the stretcher, he struggled and bit the female paramedic in the calf, Alfaro said. He also injured a male firefighter.

Both the paramedic and the firefighter were taken with minor injuries to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Alfaro said.

The man, whose exact age was not immediately known, has been taken into custody, Alfaro said.
