Man Attempted To Sexually Assault Jogger On South Shore Lake Path

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man tried to sexually assault a jogger Thursday night along Lake Michigan in the South Shore neighborhood.

The female was jogging north on the lakefront trail about 9:45 p.m. Thursday near South Shore Drive and 68th Street when a male ran up to her, grabbed her and shoved her into a fence, according to a community alert from Area Central detectives. He tried to sexually assault her, then ran west on 68th Street.

The suspect was described as a black man between 22 and 25 years old, 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10, 170 to 180 pounds with short black hair and a light complexion. He had "large, picture-like" tattoos on the left forearm and possibly also the right forearm.

He was wearing a dark gray T-shirt with a sports brand emblem, green camouflage knee-length shorts, dark socks and black-and-white slip-on shoes, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8380.
