Man Arrested After Attacking Women With Hammer Near Navy Pier

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was arrested after attacking two women with a hammer near Navy Pier on Tuesday.

Police said the women, both 55 years old, were walking on the Lakefront Path near lower Lake Shore Drive and Grand Avenue around 6:30 p.m., when a man attacked them with a hammer.

The man struck both women in the face, then fled the scene, police said. He was later taken into custody.

Both women were being treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

The motive for the attack was unclear, but police said charges were pending early Wednesday.
