Man And Woman Killed In Belmont-Cragin Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were shot and killed Sunday morning in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

About 6:30 a.m., a 34-year-old woman and a man – thought to be in his 20s – were walking in the 2700 block of North Lavergne Avenue when someone with a gun got out of a car and opened fire, police said.

The woman was struck in the head and the man was shot multiple times, police said.

They were both taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where they were both later pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the shooting may have been gang-related.

The Cook County medical examiner's office could not confirm the deaths Sunday evening.
