Man Allegedly Gave 12-Year-Old Gun, Told Child To Shoot Him

(CBS) -- A man allegedly put a pistol in a 12-year-old child's hand and told him to shoot him.

According to police, Armond M. Meyers, 43, allegedly "placed a handgun in a 12-year-old child's hand, holding the weapon to his head and instructing the child to pull the trigger," Round Lake Park Police said in a statement.

The Round Lake Park Police Department was recently notified by the Department of Child and Family Services of the incident that happened sometime in July.

Police say a subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of Meyers, in which officers recovered:

  • 1 Beretta 9 mm semi automatic handgun
  • 1 Winchester 12 gauge shotgun
  • 1 Marlin .22 Caliber rifle
  • Numerous rounds of various ammunition

Meyers was charged with four counts of unlawful use of a weapon, one count of possession of a firearm ammunition by a felon, one count of possession of a firearm without a FOID card and one count of child endangerment.

Meyers is being held at Lake County Jail on $50,000 bond.
