Man, 87, Attacked By Three Teens While Golfing In Elgin

ELGIN, Ill. (CBS/STMW) -- An 87-year-old man was practicing golf near the baseball fields in a park in northwest suburban Elgin when he was attacked by three teenage male teens, according to Elgin police.

According to a release, the teens struck the victim in the head and face with the golf clubs at Wing Park, the Courier News is reporting. The victim was able to get in his car and drive a short distance from the offenders. The teens fled with the golf clubs. The victim was treated for his injuries at the scene.

The teens were located in the area of Clifford Court by patrol officers, police said. All three were charged in Kane County with one count of Armed Robbery, one count of Robbery (victim over 60), and one count of Aggravated Battery (victim over 60).

Elgin Police Commander Dan O'Shea says the 87-year-old man is doing better.

"The investigators went out and spoke with him to follow up with him and he is doing as well as can be expected. He was treated and released at the scene yesterday. He was not transported to the hospital," said O'Shea.

Two of the juveniles are 15 years old and one is 16. All three were taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center. A detention hearing will be held Sunday.
