Man, 82, Killed In Head-On Crash In Joliet

(STMW) -- An 82-year-old driver was killed Friday evening when his vehicle was struck head-on in southwest suburban Joliet, police said.

About 5:40 p.m., a vehicle was heading westbound on Hillcrest Road near Lincoln Highway (U.S. Rt. 30) when it crossed into eastbound lanes "for unknown reasons" and struck a vehicle head on, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. R. A. Caves said.

The 82-year-old man driving the vehicle that was hit died at the scene, Caves said. The Will County coroner's office could not confirm the death at 9:30 p.m., but police said the man was from southwest suburban New Lenox.

Three people in the vehicle that caused the crash were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Caves said. Lanes at the scene were closed until 8:30 p.m.

Police do not suspect alcohol and drugs were involved in the crash, Caves said. No charges had been filed Friday night as state police continue to investigate.
