Male Killed In Schaumburg Crash

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (STMW) -- A male was killed Friday night when he crashed his SUV in northwest suburban Schaumburg.

The male, whose age was not immediately known, was driving a 1999 GMC Yukon Denali westbound on Interstate 290 near Route 72 about 8:30 p.m., when his SUV struck the concrete median wall several times, according to a statement from Illinois State Police.

The SUV then collided with the back of a parked construction vehicle pulling an arrow board, police said. The arrow board took most of the impact.

The male was the only occupant of the SUV, police said. The driver of the construction vehicle was not injured.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:51 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Additional details were not immediately available early Saturday.

Several lanes of the expressway were closed as a result of the crash, police said. No citations have been issued.
