Male In Custody After Fatal Humboldt Park Stabbing

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was stabbed to death Wednesday afternoon in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Gregory Shanks, 47, was stabbed in the chest about 2:55 p.m. when he was involved in an argument with another male at an apartment building in the 700 block of North Trumbull Avenue, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

When officers arrived at the scene, Shanks, of the 600 block of North Homan Avenue, was found in the vestibule of the building, authorities said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:45 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.

A male has been taken into custody in connection with the stabbing and charges were pending early Thursday, police said.
