Male Dies In Crystal Lake Fire

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A male was found dead after a residential fire in northwest suburban Crystal Lake Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities responded to the 1100 block of North Shore Drive at 2:41 p.m. for reports of a structure fire, according to a statement from Crystal Lake police. Arriving crews found a male outside showing "no signs of life."

Firefighters brought the fire under control within 15 minutes, but the 1.5 story coach house sustained $25,000 in damage and was rendered uninhabitable, police said.

Authorities believe the man was a plumber who was inside the house with a torch doing repairs, the statement said. A neighbor driving by entered the home and dragged the male outside.

The male has not been identified pending family notification.

The residents of the home were not present during the fire.

Crystal Lake police and fire departments, the McHenry County Coroner's office and the Illinois Fire Marshal's office are investigating.
