Maine West High School classes canceled after active shooter alarm accidentally goes off

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Classes have been canceled for the rest of the day at Maine West High School Friday following an accidental push of an active shooter alarm.

The school, located at 1755 S Wolf Road, in Des Plaines, went into lockdown before being evacuated by going through "all the protocols to keep students and staff safe," according to School District 207.   

Police confirmed there was "no active shooter" and no threat was identified. 

All students and staff are safe with no reported injuries.

Parents are not allowed access to the school. However, a reunification point was created at Prairie Lakes, located at 515 E. Thacker St. Staff from the school and the district is assisting with the process and answering any questions.

The building has since been cleared and police are maintaining a perimeter around the school.
